An element of uncertainty is now shadowing the outlook for a number of key Asia Pacific economies. While the International Monetary Fund states that Asia will remain the driver of global growth, it charts a decline from 4.6% growth in 2023 to 4.2% in 2024 and 3.9% in the medium term following. How will the prospect of lower economic growth impact demand for data centres? And what might be the consequences for companies designing, building, operating and owning them? Traditionally, data centres have survived well and even prospered through economic downturn (for example, through the GFC of 2007 to 2009, and more recently through the economic impacts of the pandemic) as growing global digitalisation has driven the sector forward. What is the opinion of leading industry analysts on the strength of the drivers of digital infrastructure growth and on the next few years for data centers? This session brings together a number of the region’s leading data center analysts to look at these key questions across APAC and with a focus on the Taiwan market.

Cloud computing has emerged as the mainstream mode of IT operations for both government and private sectors. In addition to cost savings provided by the public cloud companies via resource sharing and the pay-as-you-go charging, other benefits such as much tighten cybersecurity and data protection play an equally important factor in adopting cloud services in lieu of on-premises computing. Along this line of thinking, privacy enhancement, sensitive data protection, and locality requirement due to government regulations warrant a different kind of cloud services under a trusted environment. With these objectives, NCHC, being in charge of Taiwan’s primary HPC facilities and the high-speed Taiwan Advanced Research and Education Network (TWAREN), operates as a specialty cloud service provider for academia, government agencies as well as private industries. This talk is focused on the infrastructures and the trusted data environment offered by NCHC, along with various AI and Big-Data platforms available. Some use cases on how various applications can utilized HPC
under the trusted environments are illustrated.
